May Day 2015

May Day is an all-day celebration that occurs the Sunday after the last week of classes. The entire college community comes together for a day of medieval festivity and a general good time. [more]

Surprise! I’m still alive. I’ve been done with classes for a week now, but I still feel as busy as ever. Over the past few days I’ve done a presentation, two papers, two interviews, two performances with my a cappella group (you can watch one of them here), and one final exam with two more left to go.

I decided that I’d take this weekend easy and just let myself enjoy May Day. Bryn Mawr is big on traditions, and May Day is most everyone’s favorite, right up along with Hell Week, so I’ve been anticipating this one for awhile now, especially after seeing my friends’ May Day pictures from previous years. I don’t know if I was more excited to join in on the merriment or to take those pictures myself!

Usually I try to keep faces off my blog because I’m too lazy to ask people whether or not they feel comfortable about me putting their face on the Internet, but WOW everyone just looks so beautiful! While I was editing these pictures I was overwhelmed by everyone’s cuteness.

And as it turns out, I didn’t get pictures of much else other than people, so these are the only photos I have to share. This is all thanks to the fact that I woke up this morning and thought, “HMMM… I feel like vlogging May Day!” So my day was spent switching between three different cameras (photography camera, vlogging camera, polaroid). I took two back-to-back naps just now, but I still feel quite burnt out, so I figured since I made a video for this post and since this post is also so photo-heavy, I’m going to skimp out on the writing bit.

Spring has finally sprung, and here I am throwing it back to winter. I considered pulling photos of campus from my archive spanning all the way from autumn, but while I was sifting through my photos, I realized that I hadn’t taken any pictures during autumn, which is extra weird because I love autumn, or at least my idealization of it: ugly sweaters, scarves, pumpkin spice lattes, cuddling because it’s cold, autumn leaves, hiking in the brisk air, and after that snow, hot cocoa, and malls decorated for holidays.

I’m kinda freaked out that I’m not freaked out right now. It’s Sunday morning, and instead of cramming in all the work I neglected to do earlier this weekend due to the fact that I was living life (Worship Night and visiting the Lego exhibit at the Franklin Institute, which I’ve taken many pictures of and you will be hearing about eventually, and which you can get a sneak peek of via my Snapchat story @auderoylin), I’m writing this blog post. But how can anyone freak out when the world is as beautiful as this? And how can anyone think of anything else but this when this is all you see?

The campus is looking beautiful with a fresh layer of snow, but don’t let its calm demeanor fool you. Something unseen threads its way through the spindly branches and rustles the fallen leaves. It finds its way to the hood of your coat and snakes past your scarf, seeping all the way down to the very tip of your toes. And you will know that one thing is true: you can sure as hell feel wind chill, and it’s a biatch.

So I guess it’s an accurate metaphor for love. LOL jk, hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day 🙂

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

So I was thinking of doing a backwards blogmas (starting Dec 25 in a twelve-days-of-Christmas-esque style), but I realized that everyone else was doing the exact opposite–apparently the holidays is a time to spend offline with family(???)–so that idea has been put on hold, indefinitely. (But in all seriousness, unplug for a bit and hang out with the people who love you most.) (Come back to this post tomorrow, as you lie in bed at the end of the day, during your spare time, or while you poo.) (Yeah, I’m very serious.)

My Christmas was more untraditional than usual (my family isn’t all that traditional in the first place). I woke up early, but everyone else was still asleep, so I spent my morning killing time surfing the web, but there wasn’t much to surf, because everyone else in the world was busy doing traditional Christmas stuff like opening presents and interacting with people. Or something.

It turns out I woke up too early and ended up crashing around midday, but I woke up in time for dinner, AKA the highlight of my day. For dessert we had green tea pudding topped with red bean (festively colored) and red bean soup with sago. And afterwards I got my daily dose of bubble milk tea. Peace.

My evening concludes with some blog catch-up…
…and an at-home karaoke session with my mom consisting only of “You Raise Me Up.”

Nothing extravagant, but I like it this way. I’m not too big on celebrations. (High school graduation was one of the most fake and depressing events I endured.) This is my family, and it’s the little things that make us who we are, it’s the little things that we remember, it’s the little things that matter the most.

Bryn Mawr Day

Bryn Mawr Day was actually last Saturday on September 6, but I didn’t get around to writing this post–or doing anything blog-related really–until now. Quoting The Script’s “Breakeven”, I’m still alive but I’m barely breathin’ haha. I really am enjoying my time here at Bryn Mawr College, have been trying to get around, meet people, join clubs, do homework, and get sleep, because it’s really hard to get hyped up about something when you’re devoting all your energy to keeping your eyelids up. For the most part, I’ve managed to sleep before midnight, but what I have not managed to do was keep up with my blog, not to mention the rest of the blogosphere.
