Bluestone Lane

June 29, 2016

I’ve already told you guys about my Memorial Day Weekend over at Jennifer‘s apartment, but let’s throw it back to the first time I properly hung out with Jennifer. I’d already known of Jennifer because I followed her photography on Tumblr, though I don’t know if she knew I did, and I’d also seen her photos on Facebook when she tagged our mutual friends in them, but the two of us, me and her, were never introduced, so I just admired her photography from a distance.

Oh how the times have changed. Today she’s sharing her photography with us here on the blog (with some of mine thrown in too) from that time we brunched at Bluestone Lane together with Victoria over spring break!

Breaking up with social media, Kat Lee

April 6, 2016

I have a love-hate relationship with social media, but as a blogger, it’s almost unthinkable to not have social media. I mean, it’s all part of the job, right? It’s all about connecting with our readers, with our community, creating a wholesome experience from Facebook to Instagram to Pinterest to Tumblr to Twitter. Blogs that blog about blogging blog about how to use social media. People hire coaches to learn how to create an image (brand) across their different social media platforms.

Then I read Alexandra Franzen‘s post about why she doesn’t use social media anymore and her follow-up post about how it’s possible to run a business without using social media, and I realized that breaking up with social media could be a possibility, even with a blog to run.

Six weeks ago on Wednesday, February 24, Kat texted me and said she’d deactivated her Facebook and handed her Instagram account over to a friend who changed her password, which left her only with texting and Snapchat. And if you know Kat AKA Bryn Mawr College Instagram Queen, you’d know that this would be a big change for her. But it’s been six weeks, and I’m happy to report that she’s alive and well and here on the blog today to share ten things she’s learned whilst away from social media.

I also have a little announcement at the end.

Beijing, summer of 2015

November 13, 2015

photos by Kathleen and Kristy

My best friend Sheena and I joked that being apart for college wouldn’t be difficult for us because it wouldn’t be any different from high school. We’ve never had any classes together since 7th grade, and then throughout my upperclassman years of high school, I was mostly holed up in the art studio, either napping or actually working on projects I needed to be working on (what a foreign concept!).

We don’t have the same dynamic as the typical pair of best friends, and it works. On the wonderful occasions we finally see each other again, we fall right back into conversation as if no time has passed.

Back home in Beijing with no responsibilities (no classes, no internship, no job) for a good part of summer, I’ve mostly been hanging out at Starbucks with Sheena and Ray, and cramming in photography with Kathleen and Kristy, who are sharing their photos on the blog today in this collab!

Dorm tour, Kat Lee

October 17, 2015

I’m so excited to share today’s guest post by Kat! I know that this will be such a treat for those of you reading from the Bryn Mawr community because Kat is basically a campus celebrity; she’s [probably] Bryn Mawr College’s official Instagram‘s most regrammed account (I haven’t counted, but I’m 95% confident with this statement). For Instagram enthusiasts at Bryn Mawr College, having your photo regrammed by the college’s official Instagram is pretty much the greatest accomplishment ever. I’ve had the honor of appearing on their feed thrice (here, here, here, and yes, I am keeping track).

A few of you have asked me to make a post giving you a tour of my dorm room. Contrary to what my Pinterest might lead you to believe, I do not have a knack for interior decorating. Last year I left my half of the dorm room virtually empty and mooched off my roomie’s crafting skills, but this year I’m determined to personalize my room and add some homely touches. I had planned to get it all done over fall break, but it seems that I am forever running behind schedule. So today I’ve invited Kat to share her [Pinterest/Instagram/Tumblr-worthy] space to give you an idea of a Bryn Mawr College dorm.

A Girl with a Camera, Margery Ho

June 24, 2015

Meet Margery, the blogger behind A Girl with a Camera, an online journal inspired by bright and minimal fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. I’ve been a follower since the blog was still called Marjorie, and it’s been so cool to be there for some firsts, including her branching out to YouTube and finally getting a camera remote. This beautiful lady is forever finding ways to push herself creatively, and today we get the BTS.
